Internal App Hosting Platform
Think Vercel or Railway inside the company walls. Business users deploy the apps they build with AI coding tools, no engineering request required.
The Challenge
Business users at Backcountry — non-technical, but adept with Claude Code and other agentic tools — have built 100+ apps and automations. Each one solves a real problem, but individually none is big enough to justify engineering effort, so they live on laptops: no place to host or share them, no visibility into what's running, and everything disappears when the builder leaves. The long tail of small use cases adds up to a lot of value — and it had nowhere to go.
My Approach
Rather than solving hosting requests one at a time, I'm taking a platform approach: build the paved road once. The platform gives business users the easy deployment experience of a Vercel or Railway, but built to comply with internal security requirements — reusing internal authentication patterns, VPN-only access, and governance by default. Users ship their own automations without engineering resources each time; the platform is the enforcement point, not a review queue. It also serves as the proving ground for proofs of concept and MVPs before handoff to engineering, so bigger builds start de-risked instead of from a whiteboard.
